AGENDA

  • Board Roles and Responsibilities
Health center governance is complex. This reviews the three major categories of health center board roles: Strategy, Oversight and Policy, and Board Functioning. It also provides a high-level overview of board-focused requirements that are part of the Health Resources and Services Administration’s (HRSA) Health Center Program.
  • The Board & CEO Relationship
The strongest relationships between a board and CEO are based on mutual respect, trust, and role clarity. In this session, participants will learn about ways to develop a strong partnership between the board and CEO, as well as review the board’s key oversight role for the CEO. Common challenges that arise in distinguishing between governance and management will also be explored. If the PCA decides to include a health center CEO and board chair in this session, real world examples based on their experience will be included in the session.
  • Effective Health Center Board Meetings
Health center boards are unique in many ways, including in that they are required to hold monthly
board meetings. This explores tips for effective board meetings, and good practices for before,
during, and after a board meeting. It also highlights practices such as consent agendas, optimizing
agendas for strategic conversations and decision-making, and technology enhancements such as
    board portals.
