Cervical Cancer Series | HPV Testing

Join us for the fourth session of LPCA’s Cervical Cancer Prevention Training Series, focused on HPV self-sampling as an innovative screening approach. This session will provide participants with the knowledge and tools to explore at-home HPV testing and strategies for integrating self-sampling into clinical and public health settings.

Topics to be covered include:

  • Overview of at-home HPV self-sampling kits
  • Evidence supporting HPV self-collection and current FDA status
  • Implementation models in clinical and public health settings

Subtopics:

  • Addressing barriers: cultural considerations, health literacy, and stigma
  • Pilot programs and evaluation strategies
  • Guidance on at-home collection procedures

By the end of this session, participants will understand the benefits, challenges, and practical approaches for implementing HPV self-sampling programs, helping expand access to cervical cancer screening in their communities.
This webinar will provide key information on HPV self-sampling, including an overview of the American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology guidelines, as well as implications for implementation in your practice.

Michael Hagensee, MD, PhD
LSU Health New Orleans

A native of Chicago, Dr. Hagensee earned his MD and PhD from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. He completed an internal medicine residency and a fellowship in infectious diseases at University of Washington Affiliated Hospitals in Seattle, Washington.

From 1994 to 1996, he was a post-doctoral fellow at the Fred Hutchinson Research Center and an instructor in the division of Infectious diseases at the University of Washington Affiliated Hospital. He joined the faculty of LSU School of Medicine in 1996 as an assistant professor in the section of infectious diseases.

Dr. Hagensee’s laboratory is studying the interaction of EBV and HPV in the development of cervical dysplasia in HIV, looking for ways to improve cervical cancer prevention in at-risk women and examining the role of HPV in the development of oral cancers. He is board certified in infectious diseases and clinically runs an HPV-related anal cancer prevention clinic at University Medical Center in New Orleans.

 

Donna Williams, DrPH, MPH, MS
LSU Health New Orleans

Dr. Williams serves as Director of the Louisiana Cancer Prevention and Control Program.  She is a professor at LSU Health New Orleans School of Public Health and Associate Director for Community Outreach and Engagement for the LSU LCMC Health Cancer Center.

She received her doctorate in public health from Tulane University and has over 30 years of experience in research and cancer control.
