
Medicare 101 for CACs: Supporting Seniors with Confidence
Join the Louisiana Primary Care Association & the Louisiana Senior Health Information Program (LA SHIP) for “Medicare 101 for CACs: Supporting Seniors with Confidence.”
LA SHIP, administrated by the Administration for Community Living (ACL) in partnership with the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), provides free, unbiased counseling and education to Medicare beneficiaries, their families, and caregivers across the state. Through trained staff, LA SHIP assists individuals in understanding Medicare coverage options, navigating enrollment decisions, and identifying programs that help reduce healthcare costs. The program focuses on delivering accurate, confidential, and objective information to empower beneficiaries to make informed healthcare decisions.
LA SHIP session modules will be conducted by the director of program, Vicki Dufrene and Lead-counselors, Sharon Arnold & Barbara Gooden.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this training, participants will be able to:
- Educate and counsel Medicare beneficiaries, by providing accurate, objective, and confidential information regarding Medicare benefits, coverage options, and consumer rights.
- Assist beneficiaries with Medicare enrollment navigation, including understanding enrollment periods, plan comparisons, and coverage choices within Original Medicare and Medicare Advantage.
- Identify and explain programs that help reduce Medicare costs, including the Low-Income Subsidy (LIS/Extra Help) and Medicare Savings Programs (MSP), and assist beneficiaries in understanding eligibility and application processes.
- Maintain compliance with Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) guidelines, ensuring counseling services adhere to SHIP standards for accuracy, impartiality, confidentiality, and consumer protection.
