Louisiana’s Community Health Centers Day of Action

Join LPCA, Louisiana’s Community Health Centers, and health center advocates at the State Capitol building & the Capitol Park Museum for a full day of hands-on advocacy at our Louisiana Community Health Center Day of Action!

Grassroots advocacy is the most powerful voice we have in connecting with Louisiana’s lawmakers to ensure that Community Health Centers are top of mind when they are crafting legislation. Our voice are stronger together, and this day is a testament to the change we can do when we come together to show the full power of the health center movement. You can learn more about LPCA’s policy priorities here. We are incredibly excited to bring this event back to our State Capitol, and we hope that you will join us!

Tentative Agenda:

  • 7:00 a.m. – Registration Opens
  • 8:00 a.m. – Breakfast with Legislators
Invitations will be sent to all Louisiana State Representatives and Senators as well as the Governor’s office to join our advocates for breakfast before heading to the Capitol. We would love to invite all Community Health Center advocates to network over breakfast and coffee, giving you an opportunity to build connections with policy and decision-makers from across the state.
  • 9:00 a.m. – Advocacy Deep Dive with LPCA
Before starting the day, LPCA’s Director of Health Policy & Governmental Affairs, Raegan Carter, will present LPCA’s policy priorities and talking points and give guidance on submitting cards in support or opposition as well as entering floor notes to speak one-on-one with legislators later in the day.
  • 10:00 a.m. – Committee Meetings
Committee meetings for both House & Senate Committees are gatherings of specific legislators that review and debate proposed legislation to ensure that they are fair and operate within Louisiana’s State Constitution. While members of each committee as well as the bill author will present and debate the legislation, private citizens and organizations are also welcome to submit cards in support, opposition, or to offer information. LPCA will share if any of our currently tracked legislation will be on the schedule to be discussed at the Advocacy Deep Dive, but advocates will be welcome to attend any committee meeting of their choosing.
  • 12:00 p.m. – Lunch in the Capitol Rotunda
While tables have been secured for a limited number of representatives, LPCA and our attending sponsor invite all attendees to join us in the rotunda for a quick lunch.
  • 1:00 p.m. – Photo on Capitol Steps
Grab your t-shirts and gather on the Capitol steps to take an official photo! All groups are welcome to take their own photo, or photos can be shared out from LPCA staff.
  • 2:00 p.m. – Recognition on the House & Senate Floors
As Representatives and Senators convene at the end of the day on the House & Senate floors to provide final votes and debate on proposed legislation, join us in the audience to be recognized. You are welcome to sit in on the remaining hours of the day.
  • 4:00 p.m. – Wind down at our Evening Reception
After this long day of advocacy, LPCA invites you to join us back at the Capitol Park Museum where we will have hors d’oeuvres, drinks, and entertainment. Both attendees and legislators will be invited to enjoy good food and dancing as well as walk through the incredible Capitol Park Museum. This event will end at 7:00 p.m.
