Cervical Cancer Series | Reducing Variations in Access

Join us for our fifth Cervical Cancer Learning Series 5: Reducing Variations in Access and Increasing Inclusive Participation in Cervical Cancer Care, part of LPCA’s Cervical Cancer Prevention Training Series. This fifth session focuses on improving cervical cancer prevention and care for communities with fewer resources and reducing variations in access across diverse populations. Participants will explore practical strategies to support inclusive participation and responsive care.

Topics to be covered include:

  • Understanding barriers to care among people from different backgrounds, including heritage-based and location-based communities
  • Culturally responsive care and trauma-informed approaches
  • Inclusive participation in HPV vaccination and cervical cancer screening

Subtopics:

  • Data collection and equity dashboards to identify gaps and guide improvement
  • Case studies showcasing high-impact interventions
  • This session is designed for clinicians, care teams, quality improvement leaders, and community partners working to improve cervical cancer prevention and care.

Denise Roubion-Johnson, DrNP
LSU Health New Orleans

Denise Roubion-Johnson, DrNP, has served as the Medical Advisor, Lead Clinical Associate and Community Educator for the Louisiana Breast & Cervical Health Program (LBCHP) statewide for 16 years. Dr. Johnson previously served as the Clinical Director for New Orleans services from 2009 to 2015, performing screening and diagnostic services while training both physicians and medical students in the recognition of breast abnormalities. She holds a wealth of knowledge and expertise in cancer screening that she applies in both the clinical and community settings.

She leads LBCHP’s efforts on public education around cancer early detection through community outreach, professional presentations, and various media opportunities. Dr. Roubion- Johnson began her nursing career in 1986 as an RN graduate of Charity Hospital School of Nursing and worked in the pediatric ER. Two years later, she received a bachelor of science in nursing from Loyola University. She then obtained a master’s degree in nursing, obtained a Clinical Nurse Specialist Degree in Community Mental Health and became an Adult Nurse Practitioner with board certification by both AANP and ANCC from LSU. She earned a Clinical Doctorate from Chatham University in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania with the clinical focus being on the recognition of breast abnormalities. She is board certified by the National Consortium of Breast Centers (NCBC).
