National Minority Health Month is celebrated every April to raise awareness surrounding health disparities that continue to affect people from racial and ethnic minority groups. This month is an opportunity to encourage action through health education, early detection, and control of disease complications. This year, Louisiana’s Community Health Centers will spread awareness of obesity and the importance of nutrition and staying active. Obesity disproportionately affects minority groups with Black/African American and Hispanic populations seeing higher percentages of obesity than white populations.
This month, health centers across the state have planned events to encourage healthier lifestyles and empower patients to make healthier choices for themselves and their loved ones.
